We aim to get things right. When we don't, we correct the record quickly and openly.

Corrections

When an article contains a factual error, we fix it and add a dated correction note at the end of the article explaining what was wrong and what is now correct. We do not silently change facts in published articles.

Clarifications

When an article is accurate but could be misunderstood, or omitted important context, we add a clarification note.

Updates

When a developing story changes materially, we update the article, show an “Updated” time beside the publication time, and note significant changes.

Minor edits

We may fix spelling, grammar, formatting and broken links without a note, as long as the meaning is unchanged.

Removing content

We rarely remove published articles. We consider doing so only for legal reasons or where an article poses a serious and ongoing risk to someone's safety. Decisions are made by [the editor-in-chief] and recorded.

Requesting a correction

Email [corrections email address] with the article's address and the error you believe it contains. We aim to respond within [two working days].
